Things God Does | Ephesians 6:5-8 | God employs me at my day job

Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.

know that whatever good anyone does, God will do the same back to Him

God will someday reward me for the work I do for others
God represents my employer, and asks of me everything that my employer asks of me
- and He wants me to do it for His sake, not my employers’
- this should be better for my employer because I am willing to give up my rights at God’s request, but not at my employers’
- this should help me do a better job for my employer
- if I do a better job, that should glorify God

1 Corinthians 9:12 — Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ
Proverbs 19:11 — The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression
Matthew 18:21-35 — … I forgave all that debt because you begged me, should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant just as I had pity on you?

While it’s appropriate for me to refuse to give up my rights for a human employer, I ought to gladly give up my rights for my God — and my God asked me to do everything that my employer asked, so effectively I should give up my rights for my employer, for God’s sake
When I go to work in the morning, I ought to go to serve the Lord. That means I think of everyone with authority over me as a proxy for God, and that their workplace instructions are to be taken as instructions from God. (Obviously that’s only as far as their instructions are morally sound, not contradicting anything God says in the scriptures)
When I complete a task at work, I ought to look to God to reward me, not man. After all, I did it at His request.
